Scores

Ease of setup & use 7.0
Feature depth 8.0
Pricing & value 7.0
Integrations 7.5
Support & terms 7.0
How these scores were worked out
  • Ease of setup & use: 7.0 (Good) A free plugin from WordPress.org with a guided 14-day journey and a free cloud account. Capterra reviewers rate ease of use well but also call the interface cluttered and overwhelming at first.
  • Feature depth: 8.0 (Strong) Focus Pages, keyword research, Briefcase, a Live Assistant, audits, technical SEO automation and GEO tools for AI search in one plugin. Some reviewers question how accurate its scores are, which keeps this at 8.
  • Pricing & value: 7.0 (Good) A permanent free plan and a fairly priced PRO plan on yearly billing, but free allowances are small, only PRO shows a yearly price and the monthly PRO page lists different limits from the main table.
  • Integrations: 7.5 (Good) Works with Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, WooCommerce, Multisite and WPML, imports from more than ten SEO plugins, runs beside Rank Math or Yoast, and connects Search Console, Google Analytics and AI assistants.
  • Support & terms: 7.0 (Good) Free users get the WordPress.org forum and paid plans get email, social media and WhatsApp support, which reviewers praise. No general refund policy was found, and the results guarantee has strict conditions.

Overall: (7.0 + 8.0 + 7.0 + 7.5 + 7.0) ÷ 5 = 7.30, shown as 7.3. The five criteria are weighted equally.

Scores are editorial judgments in half-point steps, based on documented features, published pricing and repeated themes in customer reviews. They are not lab measurements, so treat the words as the guide: 8.0+ Strong, 7.0 to 7.9 Good, 6.0 to 6.9 Average, below 6.0 Weak.

What works

  • A free plan with no time limit, and the SEO Live Assistant is unlimited on every plan.
  • Focus Pages turns SEO into a clear task list for the pages that bring in customers.
  • GEO tools for AI search: a GEO audit, llms.txt files, AI crawler control and IndexNow submission.
  • The Advanced SEO Pack with redirects, 404 monitoring and custom schema is included at no extra cost.
  • Runs beside Rank Math or Yoast and imports from more than ten SEO plugins.
  • Strong customer ratings on WordPress.org and Capterra, with support praised often.

What doesn’t

  • The free plan covers only one Focus Page, so most businesses outgrow it quickly.
  • Reviewers describe the interface as busy and overwhelming at first.
  • Squirrly’s pricing pages disagree on PRO limits, and only PRO shows a yearly price.
  • No refunds outside the results guarantee, whose conditions few pages will meet.
  • The Business plan allows fewer sites than the cheaper Web Dev Kit.
  • Checkout runs through Paddle, which can block payments from some countries.

What we couldn’t verify

  • Squirrly SEO was not tested hands-on; ease of use, speed and the accuracy of its scores are based on its documentation and customer reviews.
  • The Pricing & Plans page inside a Squirrly account lists PRO at 5 sites; Squirrly support confirmed in October 2026 that PRO includes 7. Support said monthly and yearly PRO share the same limits, although the separate monthly PRO page lists higher ones.
  • Vendor figures such as more than 25,000 paying clients are Squirrly’s own and were not verified.
  • The other Squirrly and AISQ products are described from Squirrly’s pages and were not reviewed.

If any of these matter to your decision, check them directly with the vendor or during your trial.

Who should skip it

Owners who want a plugin they set once and never open again, people put off by a busy interface, sites not built on WordPress, and agencies that need many sites on one plan without checking the limits first.

By Abdullahi Abdirahman, Founder & Editor, SoftReviewLab. Pricing and plan limits checked on Squirrly’s official pricing pages, its WordPress.org plugin page and its company pages in October 2026. This Squirrly SEO review is research-based: I have not run the plugin on this site, which uses a different SEO plugin. Short answer: is Squirrly SEO the best AI SEO plugin for WordPress? For a small business owner who wants to be told what to fix next, it is one of the strongest choices, and its free plan is a real starting point rather than a demo. It now goes beyond classic SEO with tools for AI search, such as a GEO audit and llms.txt files. The trade-offs are a busy interface, small free allowances and pricing pages that don’t always agree with each other.

What Is Squirrly SEO?

Squirrly SEO is a WordPress plugin made by Squirrly Limited, a company registered in London and founded in September 2012 by Florin Muresan and Calin Vingan. Its WordPress.org page lists more than 30,000 active installations, and the plugin is now presented as the “GEO Plugin by Squirrly SEO”, because its newest features aim at AI search as well as Google. It only runs on WordPress, so if your site isn’t on WordPress yet, my guide on how to choose a CMS for a business website helps with that decision first.

The plugin itself is free. The heavier work, such as keyword research, site audits and rank tracking, runs in Squirrly’s cloud, so you connect a free Squirrly account during setup. That cloud link is what the paid plans expand: more sites, more Focus Pages and more research each month.

The idea that sets Squirrly apart is guidance. Instead of a settings panel you fill in once, it gives you a list of tasks for the pages you care about and checks them off as you go. A 14-day “journey” inside WordPress walks a beginner through the first steps, one short task a day, on a single page you choose (Squirrly advises picking a page other than the homepage). Journey users get a private Facebook group for questions, and Squirrly says those who share feedback at the end have a chance to get three months of PRO free.

How I Researched Squirrly SEO

This review is built from Squirrly’s pricing pages, its plugin homepage, its WordPress.org listing and changelog, its company page and its PRO results guarantee, plus customer ratings on WordPress.org and Capterra. I have not installed it on SoftReviewLab: this site already runs another SEO plugin, and I don’t test a second one on a live business site. So statements about speed, accuracy of its scores and day-to-day ease of use come from documentation and customer reviews, not from my own use.

What Squirrly SEO Does for a Business Website

Focus Pages: SEO for the Pages That Earn Money

Focus Pages is the heart of the plugin. You pick the pages that matter most, such as a service page or a best-selling product, and Squirrly checks each one against a long list of ranking factors, grouped into areas like visibility, traffic health and inner links. Each red item comes with an explanation of what to do. For an owner without an SEO background, this turns “do SEO” into a short to-do list for the pages that bring in customers.

The catch is the allowance. Focus Pages are counted per account and per site, and the free plan covers only one, so a business that wants to work on several key pages will need a paid plan quite soon.

Keyword Research and Briefcase

Keyword research suggests related searches of two to five words and shows the search volume and how hard each one is to rank for. You can research several phrases at once and choose from more than 140 countries, which matters if you sell outside the US. Squirrly now also adds AI-based research that looks for the questions people ask, checked against search volume data. Keywords you want to keep go into Briefcase, a saved keyword list you can group by topic and use when you plan content. Squirrly advises long, specific phrases for small sites, which is sound advice for a new business website.

SEO Live Assistant While You Write

The Live Assistant sits next to the editor in Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi and other builders and lights up as you place your keyword in the title, headings, text and images. It is unlimited on every plan, the free one included. It helps beginners write pages that are clearly about one topic, but like any checklist it can push you to repeat a keyword more than a reader would like, so keep the text natural. You can also optimize one page for several keywords, which helps search engines see the full topic of a longer article.

A Blogging Assistant in the same panel helps with research while you write. It finds copyright-free images and adds your keyword as the image alt text, and it lets you look up Wikipedia articles, tweets and blog excerpts on the topic, plus pages of your own site worth linking to. It saves time, but check each image’s licence and every fact before you publish.

SEO Goals, Audits and Progress Tracking

The dashboard shows a short list of Next SEO Goals, the high-priority tasks Squirrly expects to help your rankings most, such as choosing less competitive keywords or making a Focus Page at least 1,500 words long. Each goal has a “Show me how” guide, and a Progress and Achievements panel records what you have finished. For an owner who works on SEO an hour here and there, this answers the question “what should I do today?”

The site audit scores six areas: blogging, SEO, social media, links, authority and traffic. You can compare a new audit with older ones to see whether your changes helped. Treat the scores as a guide to what needs attention rather than a measure of how well you will rank, because no tool can predict that exactly.

This is the newest part of Squirrly and the reason for its new name. GEO, or generative engine optimization, means helping AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers find and cite your pages. Squirrly lists a GEO audit that scores how ready a page is for AI citation, llms.txt and llms-full.txt files that describe your site to AI tools, control over which AI crawlers may read your site, submission of new pages through IndexNow and the Google Indexing API, and answer-ready schema. Faster indexing only helps once nothing is blocking Google, so if your site is missing from search altogether, start with my guide on why a website is not showing up on Google.

An AI Visibility report connects to Google Analytics to show visits that came from AI tools, and Squirrly labels its exposure figures as estimates. That honesty matters: no plugin can promise that an AI will quote your business, and these tools only remove obstacles.

Technical SEO Automation

The basics are handled automatically: XML sitemaps, canonical links, meta robots, Open Graph and X cards, favicons and JSON-LD schema for many page types. The Advanced SEO Pack adds redirects, 404 monitoring, custom schema and richer snippets, and the pricing page says it is included at no extra cost. Local businesses get local business schema and a KML file, and news sites get a Google News sitemap. Separate sitemaps can cover images, videos and products, and the schema types include products, events, recipes, books, articles and podcasts.

For larger sites, Bulk SEO shows every page, post and product in one list, with red and green marks for missing titles, descriptions or social cards. You set patterns once for each post type, so new products and posts get a title and description automatically; Squirrly says a store with 2,000 products can be re-optimized this way in a couple of minutes. The plugin also flags duplicate titles and descriptions, and adds Google Analytics, a Facebook Pixel and webmaster verification codes, including Pinterest, without code.

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Your SEO Data

On WordPress 6.9 or newer, Squirrly can let an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT read and update your SEO data through WordPress’s Abilities API, limited to the permissions of your WordPress user. It is a useful extra for people who already work with an AI assistant, but give it a user role with only the access it needs.

Squirrly SEO Pricing 2026

One correction to that page: Squirrly’s support team confirmed to me in October 2026 that PRO covers 7 websites, not 5, and said the pricing page would be updated. Payments go through Paddle, which can block a purchase from some countries because of regional restrictions or compliance checks; that is what Squirrly’s support said caused the E-403 error I got at checkout.

The free plan is not on that page: it covers one site, one Focus Page, five keyword researches and one audited page a month, with help through the WordPress.org forum. Further down the same comparison, the Audit Suite checks 100 pages a month on PRO and 300 on the two higher plans, and all three paid plans include support by email, social media and WhatsApp.

Three details matter more than the headline prices. First, only PRO shows a yearly price on the main pricing page, and Squirrly’s separate monthly PRO page lists $29.99 a month with higher limits than the plans above. Squirrly’s support told me that monthly and yearly PRO have the same limits, with credits resetting each month on the same date, so paying monthly does not buy you more. Second, Business allows fewer sites than Web Dev Kit but more SERP checks, which makes Web Dev Kit the better buy for someone who runs many small client sites.

Third, rank data on Free and PRO comes from your own Google Search Console, while the two top plans use Squirrly’s own SERP checker.

If you outgrow a plan’s limits, Squirrly lets PRO and Business customers stack licences to add more sites and Focus Pages, and Web Dev Kit adds custom branding for agencies that set the plugin up for clients. Squirrly also states that plans renew at the same price, which is worth knowing, since many tools raise the price after the first year.

The monthly plan page says there is no contract, you can cancel at any time, and an account drops back to the free plan at the end of the billing period. If you want to start with the free plan and see how the Focus Pages tasks suit you, you can get Squirrly SEO here.

The PRO Results Guarantee

Squirrly advertises that PRO is “guaranteed to bring you rankings”, with a full refund if a page added to Focus Pages does not rank within one month. Read the guarantee conditions before you count on it: the keyword must have at least three words and be rated very easy to rank, all Focus Pages checks must be green, the page needs 1,500 words and 20 social signals, the site audit must score above 74 across at least 20 pages, and you must have completed the 14-day journey. Few pages will meet every condition, so treat it as a sign of confidence, not as a refund policy.

Squirrly’s support confirmed to me that there are no refunds outside this guarantee; they point buyers to the free plan as the way to try the plugin before paying.

Using Squirrly SEO With Rank Math or Yoast

Many site owners already have an SEO plugin. Squirrly can run in a compatibility mode next to Rank Math, Yoast, SEOPress, All in One SEO and SEO Framework, and it can import their titles and descriptions if you decide to switch. It also imports from older plugins such as SEOPress, SEO Ultimate and Platinum SEO Pack.

My advice is to let only one plugin output your meta tags and sitemap. Two plugins writing the same tags send search engines mixed signals and can slow the site, a point I explain in why your website is slow. If you only want Squirrly’s research and Focus Pages tasks, keep your current plugin for the technical side and turn those features off in Squirrly.

Squirrly works with Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, WooCommerce, WordPress Multisite and WPML, and needs WordPress 5.3 and PHP 7.0 or newer. It runs on any normal WordPress host; if you are still choosing one, my Hostinger review covers the host this site runs on.

What Customers Say About Squirrly SEO

On WordPress.org, Squirrly SEO holds 4.6 out of 5 from 682 ratings: 596 five-star and 41 one-star. On Capterra it has 4.7 out of 5 from 168 reviews, with 4.5 for ease of use, 4.6 for features, 4.7 for value and 4.6 for customer service.

Reviewers most often praise the step-by-step guidance, the keyword research and rank tracking, and fast, helpful support. The complaints repeat too: an interface that feels cluttered or dated, a tool that is overwhelming at first, paid plans that some find expensive, and a few reports of bugs and timeouts. One critical reviewer questions how accurate the scoring is, which is a fair warning for any tool that turns SEO into a percentage.

Other Products From Squirrly

Squirrly SEO is the company’s main product, but Squirrly and its AISQ brand sell many others. I have not reviewed these separately, so the descriptions below come from Squirrly’s own pages. They help you see where each one fits if you are already using Squirrly SEO.

Tools for WordPress Sites

  • WP Ghost (Hide My WP Ghost): a security plugin that hides common WordPress paths and files to block bots, injection and brute-force attacks, with a scanner and activity alerts. Plans start at $49 a year for one site.
  • Starbox PRO: a plugin for author bio boxes, with more than 1,000 templates and social profile links. Useful if several people write for your blog.
  • Squirrly SEO Cloud App: Squirrly’s SEO tools outside WordPress, for sites built on other platforms.
  • Customer App: the hub where Squirrly customers reach their products and accounts.

Marketing Tools

Done-for-You Services and Learning

Who Should Use Squirrly SEO, and Who Should Skip It

Squirrly SEO suits a small business owner or a solo marketer who runs a WordPress site, has no SEO specialist, and wants a clear list of what to improve on the pages that bring in customers. It also suits anyone who wants to prepare a site for AI search without adding several separate tools.

Skip it if you want a plugin you configure once and never open again, if a busy interface puts you off, or if your site is not on WordPress, where you would need the separate Cloud App. Agencies with many client sites should compare the site limits carefully, because the plan with the most sites is not the most expensive one. If you want to see the plugin before installing it on a live site, Squirrly offers a demo WordPress site with the plugin already set up, made for testing. And if you would rather pay someone to do SEO for you than learn a plugin, my Gushwork review shows what a done-for-you service includes and what to check in the contract before you sign.

Squirrly SEO Review Verdict: Is It Worth It in 2026?

Squirrly SEO is worth trying for most small WordPress businesses, because the free plan lets you judge the most important part, the Focus Pages tasks, without paying. Its GEO tools put it ahead of many plugins on AI search, and customer ratings are strong. Its weaknesses are practical rather than fatal: small free allowances, an interface that takes time to learn, pricing pages that disagree, and a guarantee with conditions few pages will meet.

Start free on one key page for a month. If you finish the tasks and want them for more pages, PRO on yearly billing is the step most small businesses need, and you can start with Squirrly SEO here if it sounds like a fit.

Frequently Asked Questions About Squirrly SEO

Is Squirrly SEO the best AI SEO plugin for WordPress?

It is one of the most complete options if you want an SEO plugin that also prepares your site for AI search. It adds a GEO audit, llms.txt files, AI crawler controls and a way to connect Claude or ChatGPT to your SEO data, on top of keyword research, Focus Pages and technical SEO. It is not the best fit if you want a simple plugin you set once and forget, because Squirrly works best when you follow its tasks every week.

Is Squirrly SEO free?

Yes. The plugin is free on WordPress.org and the free plan has no time limit, but its cloud tools such as keyword research, audits and Focus Pages have small monthly allowances. You need a free Squirrly account to use them, and no card is required unless you buy a paid plan.

Can I use Squirrly SEO with Rank Math or Yoast?

Yes. Squirrly can run in a compatibility mode next to Rank Math, Yoast, SEOPress, All in One SEO and SEO Framework, and it can import their data if you switch. Let only one plugin output your meta tags and sitemap, so search engines don’t receive two versions.

What is GEO, and does Squirrly help with it?

GEO, or generative engine optimization, means making your pages easy for AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers to find, understand and cite. Squirrly’s GEO features include an audit of AI readiness, llms.txt and llms-full.txt files, control over AI crawlers, faster indexing through IndexNow and answer-ready schema. No tool can guarantee that an AI will cite you.

Does Squirrly SEO offer refunds?

The pages I read describe a results guarantee for Squirrly SEO PRO: a full refund if a page you add to Focus Pages does not rank within one month, but only when a long list of conditions is met. Outside that guarantee there are no refunds, as Squirrly’s support confirmed, so test the free plan before you pay for a year.
